A Complete Outdoor Wellness Transformation
When Mr Thompson first approached Yorkshire Garden Studios in 2022, his goal was clear, to create a bespoke garden studio that would function as a dedicated home gym. The result was a high-quality, purpose-built space that blended seamlessly into the garden while delivering the practicality and performance he needed for daily training.
Impressed by both the design and craftsmanship, the family returned to Yorkshire Garden Studios with a new vision, this time for Ms Mace. She wanted her own bespoke studio, one that would complement the existing structure while introducing a more relaxed, restorative atmosphere.
Rather than simply adding a second standalone building, the design evolved into something far more ambitious.
A Connected Outdoor Living Experience
We designed and built a second bespoke studio, carefully integrated with the original gym through a thoughtfully planned interlinking area. This connection transformed the two individual structures into a cohesive outdoor living environment, one that could be enjoyed not just functionally, but socially and seasonally.
The interlinking space serves as a natural hub for the family, particularly during the warmer months, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor flow that encourages relaxation and togetherness.
The Ultimate Wellness Space
What began as a single-purpose gym has now evolved into a fully realised wellness retreat. The completed space includes:
- A dedicated home gym for training and fitness
- A calming relaxation studio designed for rest and mindfulness
- A hot tub area for unwinding
- A sauna, elevating the space into a true spa-like environment
Together, these elements create a holistic wellness experience all within the privacy of the family’s own garden.
Design & Finishing Touches
Material selection played a crucial role in achieving the desired look and feel. The family chose cedar cladding, bringing warmth, texture, and a premium aesthetic that will age beautifully over time.
To enhance the connection between interior and exterior, anthracite grey sliding patio doors were installed across the structures.
The Result
The Thompson–Mace project is a perfect example of how thoughtful design and high-quality craftsmanship can transform an outdoor space into something truly exceptional. What started as a single gym studio has become a multi-functional wellness sanctuary, tailored to the lifestyle of the entire family.
